The goal of this meeting is to have an overview of the IPSL-CM5 climate characteristics in order to help preparing the new IPSL-CM6 model. Contributions may illustrate or may synthesize:

  • utilisation and/or performance of IPSL-CM5 in the frame of CMIP5
  • strengths and weaknesses of IPSL-CM5
  • how IPSL-CM5 behaves for some key characteristics or phenomena
  • suggestions for IPSL-CM6, diagnostics to consider during the developments process

The primary purpose of this project is to develop a platform capable of running large ensembles of simulations with a suite of models, to handle the complex and voluminous datasets generated, to facilitate the evaluation and validation of the models and the use of higher resolution models.

This project gather the developers of the two French climate models, IPSL-CM and CNRM-CM, and experts in High Performance Computing (HPC). It is founded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) for the period 2013-2017.

The training course on the LMDZ general circulation model will take place at the Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique (LMD) at Jussieu on the 16, 17 and 18th of December 2014. Mornings will be dedicated to the presentation of the model physics and dynamics, specification of inputs and outputs and description of the different model configurations; while afternoons will be dedicated to practical exercises to install and run LMDZ. The training course will be given in french or english depending on the demand.

Please register for the courses, practical exercises and meals by filling out the following poll:

This training course is aimed at any person who wants to learn how to perform simulations with LMDZ, but also at those who already use the model and want to better understand its content and its various potentialities.
Please transmit this message in particular to PhD students and any person who might be interested. Note that the training course can be validated as part of the PhD education.

The deadline for registration is the 14th of November.

We invite you to consult the webpage of the previous training course to get an idea of the training course content:

 de 10h00 à 13h00
UPMC - Salle de réunion du LMD T45-55 3è étage

Une demi journée de formation qui portera sur les points suivants
- les outils de réécriture de vos résultats de simulations climatiques aux standards "CMIP", ou "CMORization".
- les outils de publication de ces résultats standardisés sur ESGF.

La formation s'adresse aux participants à des projets de type inter-comparaison de modèles (MIP). Les curieux sont les bienvenus.
