Which ozone time series did IPSL-CM5 use for the CMIP5 simulations?

The ozone time series used in the IPSL-CM5 runs are those described in Szopa et al. 2013. They are the same as those used for the historical runs. You may find a general description of the model and the runs in the paper of Dufresne el al., 2013 and further information (in french) about ozone forcings used by IPSL-CM5 on this wiki.

How you forced volcanoes in the IPSL-CM5 historical runs?

We use solar dimming. More details in Dufresne et al.,2013 and on this page.

About tripolar/curvilinear ocean grid from ORCA2/NEMO?

IPSL ocean data are given on data points defined by four "vertices" whose latitudes and longitudes are given in NetCDF files as lat_vertices(4,lon,lat) and lon_vertices(4,lon,lat). The value of a variable at one data point represents the area of quadrilateral defined by the four vertices. A convertion to a regular grid is possible throught Climate Data Operators (CDO), as an example:

cdo remapbil,r360x180 -selvar,votemper Input_file_grid_triangular.nc Output_file_grid_regular.nc

Do the IPSL-CM5 decadal runs use volcanic background for the 2005 forecast?

Some CMIP5 groups have not included a volcanic background for future predictions to avoid discontinuity with the historical period. In the IPSL case, the published set of forecasts has a small radiative forcing in 2006 that appears as an "average volcanic forcing". Since, we built a new set of forecast by removing this "average volcanic forcing" that will be published as soon as possible.

Do the covering periods of IPSL-CM5 piControl runs include the spin-up periods?

The spin-up periods are NOT included in any published runs in the CMIP5 database.

Which forcings correspond to the historicalMisc experiment of IPSL members?

All details on this page.

Which sea surface temerature (SST) and sea ice content forcings have been used to produce the IPSL-CM5 amip runs?

We followed the PCMDI recommendations using the boundary conditions entierly documented here.

What is IPSL-CM5 cloud scheme and reference?

The IPSL-CM5 cloud scheme is described in Bony and Emanuet, 2001, is based on a bulk single moment. It computes cloud water and water mixing ratio in a single equation and then separates ice and liquid water content based on a linear change of temperature from 0°C (100% water) to -15°C (100% ice). More details in the following references: Dufresne et al.,2013 | Hourdin et al., 2006 | Bony and Emanuel, 2001 .

The convective scheme is a modified version of Emanuel, K., A cumulus representation based on the episodic mixing model: the importance of mixing and microphysics in predicting humidity. AMS Meteorological Monographs 24(46):185–192, 1996.

The cloud fraction scheme is based on a probability density function (PDF) diagnostic.

What is the initialization method used for the IPSL-CM5 decadal simulations?

For this set of simulations we have followed a very simple assimilation technique based on nudging of SST anomalies with a physcially-based restoring coefficient in order to avoid large spurious effects in the hindcasts simulations (drift etc.).

And about branch_time?
